Happy Fathers Day Dad

Today is Fathers Day. I am a dad of two great kids and I am also the son of great man. I like most children have idolized their dad.

Well my parents are definitely up there in age, my dad is 76 and mom is 74 and they have been married 55 years.

My mom has advanced lung disease and is pretty much on her last days. She is at home on in house hospice. She has nurses that come and help…

Why do I talk about this on Fathers Day? Well because I have realized more and more of how much of a great man my dad is. He is a now full time nurse that has to lift my mom in and out of bed, in and out of the bathroom change her, feed her, tend to her every need. Remember he is 76 years old and is working 24/7.

He has gotten help from sister till she recently hurt herself. But he is still the primary care giver. Mom also has alzheimer’s, if you know anything about it, they go into periods where they sit and holler and complain…  That is a tough job a 24/7 caregiver to someone that complains and hollers at you.

So my dad has brought his hero status to a new level, he is showing me a new level of unconditional love. I ask myself if could do it, I have my doubts, BUT I am being taught by my hero.

I hope I am half the man you are to my wife and children.

The Unanimous Declaration
of the Thirteen United States of America

When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security. –Such has been the patient sufferance of these colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former systems of government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world.

MEME- It should not be about ME but today it is

I got tagged to write a meme by SF Bay Area Real Estate Expert Ginger Wilcox. What is a meme?  Basically, in the blog world, a meme is a question that is asked on one blog and answered on another.  SO in this meme chain, Ginger tagged me and asked me to (1) list 7 things about myself, (2) tag 7 people to do the meme on themselves including a link to their site. It is all in the name of good fun, and probably helps with “transparency” too.  So here are 7 random things, all about ME!

1. I was born and raised* in Philadelphia. Grew up on the same street as both my parents. They grew up 5 doors apart.  Had the same nun in 1st grade as my dad. My have times changed.

2. In 1962* my parents loaded up the car to move to Florida. Our car broke down in Smithfield North Carolina. Taking several weeks for parts (1962), my dad got a job and we lived there for two years before moving back to Philly, yes to the same street. Photo is me in NC 1963, check out the car in the back.

3. Well I moved to South Florida in my mid twenties. Met the most awesome woman named Julie, fell in love and got married March 3rd 1990. I once told her she had no sense of humor, she replied I married you didn’t I, that’s a keeper.

4. 1995 BC (before children) Julie’s Company opened an operation in Salt Lake City. We liked the prospects of SLC, Family oriented, conservative and we were wanting to start a family. Which we did, our daughter Cassandra was born in  Aug ‘97 and our son Christopher Aug ‘02. 

5. I have been in the Real Estate industry since 1992, before that I was a third generation house painter, I thought we would never finish that house. lol

6. I work with single mother support groups. I and  a lender work together to help single moms own a home. We use our commissions for down payments and closing cost. I have always had a heart for the single mom, don’t know why. My parents have been married over 53 years. My wife and I have no other families… Homeownership is Good For Literacy.

7. I love electronic toys, remotes, smart phones, widgets, blogging, twitter. I like watching Pro Football, born an Eagle fan, I like pro hockey, not much of that in the inter-mountain west.

So here go my seven others and I hope I am not overstepping any bounds with them. If you have a meme already, just post it.

Free Combination Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detectors

 

Each year in America, unintentional carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning claims more than 500 lives and sends another 15,200 people to hospital emergency rooms for treatment. CO gas can come from several sources: gas-fired appliances, charcoal grills, wood-burning furnaces or fireplaces and motor vehicles.

The Salt Lake City Police Department and the Salt Lake City Fire Department are offering free smoke/carbon monoxide alarms to residents of Salt Lake City. The Police and Fire Departments received funding for these items through a grant from State Farm Insurance.  Salt Lake City residents are encouraged to attend community council meetings where the free alarms will be made available. Monopoly, Birthday and Christmas

I have always loved the game monopoly. Being in the Real Estate Industry for some time has brought me to appreciate it more and I like to play with my children. I want them to learn Real Estate from a very early age.

I have always liked the movie A Christmas Story, you know the movie. BB Gun, Leg Lamp, You’ll put your eye out, soap in the mouth, tongue stuck on the pole great classic movie.

So today is my birthday and my wife and kids presented me with Monopoly “A Christmas Story Collector’s Edition”. It is really cool, pieces include, soap with teeth marks, leg lamp, bunny suit, broken glasses. instead of chance it is triple dog dare.

The Lengths Men Will Go To

I have always thought that razor blades were quite expensive, I buy the three blade type. I am raising my hand (my wife Julie and I have a rule, if you are going to change the subject you have to raise your hand), Moore’s law observes that computer chips double in power every 18 months. I don’t know how long it took to go to from two blades to three. I am guessing 15 blades by the end of the century. Back to the original story.

Razor blades are expensive. I could never figure out why, because typically men’s hygiene stuff is usually not as expensive as women’s. Why because men will do without before we shell out a lot of money for naught. Then one day I kissed my wife with a couple of day’s growth and she said you need to shave. Eureka men will pay a lot of money because we all know men will do what it takes to be with a beautiful woman (Julie is hot). So I set out on the quest to be the envy of all men the “The Deal” on razor blades.

I searched everywhere except EBay, which is the first place I should have checked. Low and behold, I found my favorite blades for less than 2/3rds (including shipping) what I normally pay. I now have the best of both worlds, not paying through the nose and pleasing a beautiful woman. I realize that makes me some kind of hero with men. Today they arrived 50 packs of 4 Gillette’s Mach 3 Turbo. How cool is that?

Fun From Gary

Fun From Gary

Senior_ComputerI have a friend named Gary, he is older than I am that I know. How much older I am not sure, age was never really part of our conversations and his health is not so good. We thought we lost him recently but he has too much information to past on.

Because of his health he spends a lot time in front of a computer emailing to his list of friends. Gary sends a lot email and he knows most are not read. That is not why he does it, he does because he wants to share his knowledge with those he knows and loves, I am sure there are people on the list that don’t know him too well.

So anyway, I want to share a little humor I received this morning from Gary.

Cafeteria Food PB_J  

When the power went off at the elementary school, the cook couldn’t serve a hot meal in the cafeteria. She had to feed the children something, so at the last minute she whipped up great stacks of peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches.As one little boy filled his plate, he said, “It’s about time. At last — a home cooked meal!”
